If you would like to ‘live green’ with your clothing choices as well then you would want to choose from the right fabric types. The top two fabrics which are derived from plant fiber are cotton and linen. Cotton is the number one choice for environmentally friendly fabrics. According to Cotton Incorporated, cotton fiber is over 40% carbon, thus actually reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. Another ‘green’ fabric choice would be a fabric from a protein fiber like silk or wool.  The other fabric choices on the market are of man made materials. Acrylic, nylon, polyester, rayon, acetate and blends are all made from various man made fibers. If you are not so set on going ‘green’ but, would like to help our economy in some way then I would stay away from acrylic made from natural gas and petroleum; polyester which is produced from petroleum products, coal, air & water; nylon made from petroleum.
Women of our past who wanted to look healthy found it flattering to look plump and healthy as a way to attract men.  Nineteenth century artwork shows that during that era having a heavy figure was the norm and bigger was not only better but, bigger was beautiful. Today, plus size women are making a come back and some have even become positive role models in the media. American Idol’s Jordan Sparks and Kimberley Locke are both a positive role models for all women especially those who are plus size women. Hollywood also jumped on the band wagon with the recent comedy Hairspray. Featuring Nicole Blonsky, who played Tracy Turnblad, portrayed a confident, well adjusted plus size woman.
It is important to be happy with who you are and confident in the way you look. Most often our image is based on what we wear and how we present ourselves. Choosing the right fitting clothes is an important step to looking and feeling good about oneself. Knowing what styles and colors look good on your body shape is the first step to dressing with confidence. The second step is to maintain a healthy self image. The best way to do this is to surround yourself with people who build you up and are a positive influence in your life. Also, it is important to be healthy and live a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy foods. The best way to determine if your weight is putting your health at risk is to check with your health care provider.
